Announce: New desktop background, "Time To Hack JNode"
I have created a custom Desktop background called "Time To Hack JNode" for my JNode 0.2.6-dev PC, which I am happy to contribute to JNode, or to anyone else who wants it. Details after the break.
1. Download a copy of the JNode source from svn.
http://www.jnode.org/node/25#src
The path to your JNode source tree will be called $JNODEHOME here.
2. Download TimeToHackJNode.tar into a work area.
Unix/Linux: cd /tmp; wget http://exileinparadise.com/JNode/TimeToHackJnode.tar
3. Untar it.
Unix/Linux: tar xvf TimeToHackJnode.tar
Windows/Mac: You did scan that with your favorite CPU, RAM, and I/O wasting malware scanner first, right?
Enemies are everywhere! Stay alert! Trust no one! Keep your laser handy!
4. Read the License!
Unix/Linux: more TimeToHackJnode/background-license.txt
5. Use your favorite image viewer to view the TimeToHackJnode/background.png
6. If you like it enough to use it, backup your existing JNode background
Unix/Linux: cd $JNODEHOME/gui/images; mv background.png background.png-dist
If you don't like it, delete it.
Criticisms gleefully ignores, since it's not my artwork, it was just my idea to mash them up that way.
7. Move the extracted files to gui/images.
Unix/Linux: mv /tmp/TimeToHackJnode/* $JNODEHOME/gui/images
8. Rebuild your JNode.
Unix/Linux: cd $JNODEHOME; ./build.sh x86
9. Boot JNode, start AWT, and turn on the desktop background.
10. Enjoy!
The HOW-TO to turn the background on by default (like mine) when you start AWT, or specify paths to multiple files to use the background at runtime, are left as exercises for the JNode hacker.
Bonus for anyone who read this far...
When I created this desktop mashup, I e-mailed the site maintainer where I downloaded the original, asking if they could send me the name of the original artist.
My question:

How cool is that?!?
If the original artist ever finds this, feel free to e-mail me and I will be happy to amend the information to give credit where credit is due. The same goes for the original artist of the JNode_logo.png in the current distribution tree.
