I plan to engender this ui layer to a ful-fledged ish OS, via jNode.

Please explain the concept
I don't see the concept you are trying to implement.
It sounds like you are showing a new explorer for a filesystem.
What means a link between 2 nodes ? (it can't be a parent/child link since there is cycles)
What means the little bubbles around a selected node ? They appear to be contextual actions but how do you distinguish them since they all look the same.
I think you should first implement your concept in java/swing (it seems your demo is a Windows executable, which is not likely to be written in java).
So, you don't need (anything specific to) JNode, at least for the development phase.
