CD-RW boot hangs at "GRUB"

I have a couple circa 2000 PC's that won't boot JNode off CD-RW. They all hang at the word "GRUB."

I suspect the BIOS is too old, but I would really have to jump through hoops to get it upgraded. Fedora Core 2 on the same machines logs this at bootup:

"Sep 19 19:32:23 [hostname] kernel: ACPI disabled because your bios is from 2000 and too old"

Does this make sense to anyone that JNode's GRUB version wouldn't boot on old BIOS?

PC's: Compaq iPAQ Desktop PIII 500

Comment

I've not seen this before, but since the CD uses eltorito with harddisk emulation (which is pretty old, but not that old), that may be the cause of the problem.

I'm sorry to say that for now I don't have a good solution present.

UPDATE: BIOS update didn't help

I managed to update the BIOS but that didn't help.
