JNode developers meeting

Hi all,

Would you guys be interested in a JNode developers meeting?

I think it would be interesting to get together discuss the future of JNode from a technical and project perspective. I would like to share my ideas and vision about JNode with you and probably others want to do the same.

What do you think?

PS. If we want to organize this, all kinds of issues have to be decided upon, like location, date, finance etc., but let's first discuss the interest for it.

Jini Community Meeting

Last week I did attend the 8th Jini Community Meeting. It was real fun to listen to the various speakers talking about how they are using Jini technology. I also liked to see all the people I know from the Jini mailing list. (Also Sun said that they are planning to release Jini under an open source license, that will potentially be GPL-compatible.)

Of course I know that Sun has the money to organize such events and Jnode has not. But if we do it without buffet and maybe in a cheaper location than London (where the Jini meeting took place), it will be great fun for an acceptable financial expense.

I also think that demand for a meeting will arise when Jnode has GUI and network support and others start using it.

RE-JNode developers meeting

it is a good thing for new come as me which wants to take part in the development of Jnode Smiling

I agree...

Hi JNode guys,

I can only encourage any kind of activity in the JNode team that increases collaboration sharing and transfer of JNode related knowledge, ideas and code, be that personal chat, chat meeting, forum postings, teleconference, coding session whatever...
And of course, it would be great to me you all sometime in the future...

Just my words, I can't find a better way of putting it. I have contact to some of the developers using msn/jabber, but it would be nice with some kind of more collabortivt interaction between the delevopers.

About where a meeting sould take place, I guess we have to where the developers comes from, I think at the moment we are mostly from Europe.

Regards,
Martin

Possible Europe meeting

It is a ways off, but I'll be at ApacheCon Europe 2005, July 18-22, in
Stuttgart, Germany. I am from Boston, MA. Would be great to meet people.

developers meeting

just wanted to mention that there is FOSDEM on 26-27/02/2005 in brussels/belgium.
the classpath people will be there, too ...

JNode IRC Channel

I would suggest an IRC Channel on Freenode or oftc or something, since most opensource projects are on IRC. This channel could then easily be used for regular developer meetings.
IRC gives you the possibility to have group chats and single chats and also a limited rights management to let only people talk you want to Smiling

Meetings are great

Although a chat session may also be exciting, I would even more like to attend a Jnode developers meeting because it will allow to meet the other community members in person.

I would like to tout my hometown Berlin as a candidate location, since it's easy to reach and surely has enough locations that are not too expensive.

But lets first see how many people would be interested in attending. I would also like to give a talk on what I imagine how Jnode can be used. Maybe we can also have a single-day collaborative coding session ...

Another candidate from me :)

There is another candidate from me. Here in Thessaloniki/Greece. Sticking out tongue

I like both ideas

Hi,
I like both ideas (meeting/chat).
But I think it is much more difficult to organize a meeting for a few people from many different locations.
So I think there should be at least some chat session before such a meeting.

Trickkiste

Yes

I'm interested. (Certainly it depends upon location, date, finance, etc. Smiling

Precursor/Alternative

Maybe a good precursor/alternative to a jnode developers meeting would be an intermittent (biweekly?) chat session (or better)--something that can be done immediately and inexpensively, and still allow us to meet and collaborate to share ideas in more-like-real-time.

We could even organize topics for discussion at these sessions, and post the transcripts online afterwards.

re : Precursor/Alternative

I'm agreed with sam. A "regular" chat session between developer can help us to share our knowledge and/or ideas.
