Required more information about jnode

Hi all,

A silly question to ask..But i want to know clearly about Jnode.

What are the advantages of Jnode?

How can it show some speciality from other OS?

What is the difference it makes?

What will be the future goal?

Will JNode support only java applications?

What are the features/applications now jnode supporting?

Help me out to get a clear picture on Jnode.

Design of Jnode??

I like to do something in Jnode. But its quite hard to get into Jnode without a design. If a design is produced for Jnode it will be helpful to get into Jnode.

Do anyone have a model diagram? Can we get a class diagram for the classes in all the packages? And any flow diagram from the booting of Jnode?

I will try to do so

Hi,
I will try to describe the design of JNode with some diagrams.

Java apps?

JNode will support java apps, but also apps from any language that can compile to the java virtual machine.

Maybe even in the future it will be possible to run .Net apps.

Ewout

some details...

Hi,

What are the advantages of Jnode?
It uses a "save" programming language (no pointers e.g.).
How can it show some speciality from other OS?
I think the same like above, plus it is object oriented.
What will be the future goal?
To support every Java app.
Will JNode support only java applications?
I think it is sufficient to just support Java.

Trickkiste

The last one is something negative for JNode

It is one of the negative parts of JNode that it will only support java applications. But I think we can't do anything.

Why a negative?

Why is supporting java only a negative thing?

Windows supports windows only applications. Linux supports only windows applications (okay okay, wine etc, but any serious program running under wine is unstable at best).

Also, what would be the purpose of supporting architecture specific code, when so much work has been done to create a non-archetecture specific OS ?

I see this not as a negative, but a big bonus for pushing Java and getting people to write non-architecture specific code.

Matt.

You have some points but

There is some cros-compatibility between BSDs and Linux for example. To be exact BSD is able to run linux applications (i dont know if the opposite can be done).

I agree that it is not only a negative thing but also a possitive in another perspective.

Splitting Hairs?

Java applications are supported across all platforms, OS-X, Win, ...ux, even the MF OS's OS390. So what is achieved by having an OS which ONLY supports Java? Will Jnode perform better? Will is extend Java where others don't?

Also does Jnode support application/web containers yet?
