When an usb keyboard is detected, no keyboard interpreter is set and it'll result a null pointer exception. StartDevice method must check keyboard type (mac usb keyboard has got a different keymap than other ones) and set the correct interpreter (default country and language can be english but variant must be set correctly if keyboard is an apple one).

Has any progress been made on this?

My system with USB keyboard and mouse made by Gyration boots but nothing happens when I type.

Yes. Unfortunately this is not working yet. Some work already progressed by me for the overall improvement of the USB systems. But, I am still very very unhappy with its current performnce and condition.
