It seems the JNode command shell was considered as an option .. not sure what is the current state of that discussion since the begin of the year.

Sequence from boot to Jnode prompt in terms of source files
Submitted by sagsaw on Fri, 08/07/2009 - 17:17.Can anyone give a diagram similar to the one on this page http://www.jnode.org/node/175, to explain the sequence of Jnode from grub boot menu to Jnode prompt in terms of source code files?
This will help us better understand the Jnode at a much much higher level (start level) which actually would be hugely helpful for the first step to delving into source code ...
jifs.org website
Submitted by Fabien D on Sat, 08/01/2009 - 08:50.I have just found the jifs.org website : it sounds like a mirror of (or a redirection to) jnode.org website.
By using whois, I have found that the domain is owned by Trickkiste, a user we were used to see in the past.
