Sun has announced community innovation awards.

Here is an interesting discussion about participation around openjdk.

It seems we could participate.

What do you think ? should we participate ?

Vexi - Rich UIs for Java

Vexi is a platform written in Java for creating and publishing rich user interfaces for applications.

It provides an XUL-like environment for defining user interfaces. XML makes for a much more natural way of expressing layout than typical declarative code. Vexi UIs are scripted using JavaScript (which, when decoupled from the HTML DOM, is actually rather elegant). Unlike XUL, Vexi is very, very easy to extend. The Vexi core provides a box layout model, and the Vexi widgets are all combinations of boxes (and/or other widgets).

Application UIs, although the main target of Vexi, are not the only thing it is useful for. I am creating a couple of games using Vexi.

GRUB splash image how-(not)-to for my Jnode PC

This actually has very little to do with Jnode, really, but I thought other Jnode folks might benefit, so here goes!

For no good reason today, I decided to replace the stock GNU GRUB Legacy (0.97) on my Jnode system with a version that supports a splashimage (like the versions shipped with Fedora, RedHat, or Debian Linux) and wrote up what I went through to help others who might be struck with the same insane impulse!

Warning: What follows is not for the faint-of-heart!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone and a happy 2008

I hope that Santa will bring Jnode a very good year ( Maybe a real life usage ).

1097:9055 3Com 3C905B 100baseTX [Cyclone] (rev 30) working

Just a quick note to let everyone know I have another 3Com network interface card working under Jnode.
The Cyclone is a very common workhorse 100base-TX card which I have had great results with since these cards were released, under FreeBSDs, Solaris x86s, Linuxen, and now Jnode!
